Cleaning & Washing
Careful cleaning of loose rugs, from machine-made to hand-knotted, with advice on fibres, dyes and what is safe on site.
Overview
Rugs vary enormously in construction, from machine-made synthetics to hand-knotted wool and silk. Rug cleaning begins with understanding what each rug is made of before choosing a method. It suits living-room rugs, runners, children's play mats and decorative pieces.
A rug is inspected for fibre, dye stability, fringing and any existing damage. Dust is first removed from the pile and base, then the rug is cleaned using a method that suits it, which may be on site for sturdy synthetics or at a cleaning facility for delicate or valuable pieces. Fringes are cleaned separately.
Hand-knotted and natural-fibre rugs can be sensitive to water and strong products, and dyes may run. Pet stains, old spills and sun-faded areas may only partly improve. Valuable or antique rugs should be discussed in advance, and we will say honestly if a specialist restorer would be a better fit.
Final scope is confirmed in your written quotation after assessment.

FAQ
Sturdy rugs can often be cleaned on site, while delicate or valuable pieces may need cleaning elsewhere. We will confirm after assessment.
Some can be cleaned with care, but certain pieces carry a risk of dye run or damage. We will discuss this honestly first.
They can improve, but odour and staining may persist in the base fibres. Results depend on how long it has been there.
Fringes are cleaned separately, though discoloured or frayed fringes may not fully recover.
Make sure it is fully dry and lay it flat or roll it with breathable wrapping. We can advise for your type of rug.
