The state of the old paint decides how much preparation is needed. Sound, well-adhered paint may need only cleaning and light sanding, while flaking, bubbling or heavily textured old layers may need scraping back. Glossy finishes are dulled so new paint grips, and stains or marks are treated so they do not bleed through.
Repainting is the right choice when walls are structurally sound and the paint has simply aged, marked or faded. It is not a cure for damp, leaks or moving cracks, and painting over them only hides the problem briefly. If we find these during assessment, we will say so and suggest what to investigate.
Colour changes affect the workload. Going lighter or darker, or between sheens, may need primer and extra coats. In rented properties, check what your landlord requires on handover. Floors, furniture and fittings are covered and edges are masked.
Cracks and holes are filled, surfaces sanded and primed as required.
Paint is applied in even coats with drying time respected between coats.
Masking is removed, touch-ups are completed and the area is cleaned.
